Temperament
Yellow-napes combine exceptional vocal clarity with a strong, self-possessed personality. They are quick to learn and equally quick to develop unwanted habits if inadvertently reinforced. Like other Amazons they show pronounced seasonal hormonal behaviour, and mature birds can be genuinely assertive.
Care
Standard Amazon husbandry applies: low-fat pelleted diet, heavy vegetable component, substantial daily activity, and close attention to weight. Their intelligence makes training straightforward and enrichment essential.
Notes
Wild populations have collapsed under a combination of trapping and habitat loss, and the species is now listed Critically Endangered. Researchers have documented distinct regional vocal dialects, some of which are disappearing along with the local populations that carried them.
